Dark Storm

I painted Dark Storm in 2008, just a few days before the music video shoot for "Go Away" from my band, Numbers On Napkins. The video had a pirate theme, and I had quit combing my hair and had dreadlocks for the second time in my life (The first time was sophmore year of high school when I put my mohawk up in liberty spikes, and then just left it alone for three days. The hairspray and gel fused my hair and after I washed it on the third day I didn't comb it. So I had a dreadlock mohawk for about 3 or 4 weeks, then I cut it). My dreadlocks were starting to look decent, and I was excited for the video shoot, and was thinking of a lot of pirate stuff. I also had just finished painting a Hello Kitty painting for my friend Steph's daughter, Zoey, and wanted to paint something a bit less cartoon. I decided to paint the ocean, considering I was thinking of pirates at the time. I was going to paint a pirate ship in the ocean, but decided against it at the last minute. My goal was to make the painting very dark, so if you saw it in a dim lit room you would only be able to see the lightning bolts, but if you had a bright light on it you could see the cliff, trees, night sky and ocean. I kept this painting in my own collection for several years and displayed it in my living room or family room. After moving in late 2023, I didn't have the room for it and put it in the guest bedroom. In the summer of 2024, I decided to list it for sale since it was no longer being displayed in a place where everyone could see it. The painting is 18 inches tall, 36 inches wide, and 1 inch deep.
