Tabby Kills Signature Series Cochise Bass
Bad Stain Noize Weapons proudly presents the limited edition Tabby Kills Signature Cochise Bass Guitar. When Tabby was young, they fell in love with the Ibanez Soundgear bass that their father played while performing live shows in the mid and late 2000’s. The bass that their father used had a PJ pickup configuration and a deep red champagne finish. Tabby requested that Bad Stain recreate the look of their father’s bass, all the way down to the blue strings that their father primarily used.
Tabby’s signature bass has a Cochise Series body made of basswood that has been slightly altered to better resemble the Ibanez Soundgear. The body has been rounded off much more in areas, making the bass even smoother to play.
The bass has a maple neck that is 34 inches long, along with a rosewood fretboard that has 24 frets. The fretboard features medium jumbo frets with cat paw print fret markers.
Tabby’s first high quality guitar was the BSNW Gibson Lipstick Stain, and they love the tone and look of the lipstick tube pickups. When it came time for Tabby to choose the pickups they wanted installed in their signature bass, they requested a lipstick tube pickup in the bridge position,
After searching for days to find a lipstick tube pickup for bass guitars without any luck, Tabby asked Bad Stain to develop a lipstick tube pickup specifically for their needs. Bad Stain was eventually successful, and received Tabby’s stamp of approval. The pickups became Tabby Kills Signature bass pickups, and Tabby named the unique pickups “Poison Lipstick”.
BSNW Tabby Kills Signature Poison Lipstick J-Bass style pickups are made in the same way as Bad Stain’s Lipstick Stain single coil pickups, with a few slight modifications. Both pickups have tightly wound coils of polyurethane insulated copper, but Tabby’s Poison Lipstick pickups are wound using 43 gauge copper wire, instead of the usual 42 gauge. Using thinner wire produced a coil with more winds, helping to increase the pickups output. Poison Lipstick pickups also have an AlNiCo 5 bar magnet, but the pickup also has powerful rare earth neodymium magnets that also increase the total output. The end result produces a fat tone, with a slight jangle.
Tabby chose BSNW Razor Blade P-Bass style pickups for the neck position of the bass. Razor Blade pups have an output of over 16,00 ohms and are powered with two large flat ceramic bar magnets, and each coil is wound using 42 gauge formvar wire.
Tabby also asked that their signature bass be equipped with a pre-amp to make the passive pickups active, and they wanted a master volume control and pickup blend control, as well as treble, mid, and bass controls. The pre-amp is powered by a 9 volt battery, and a 9 volt battery case with a simple snap cover is located on the back of the bass for easy replacement. (9 Volt Batery Sold Separately) Tabby chose to use a chrome revolver style knob for the master volume, and a 12 gauge shotgun shell knob for the pickup blend control. Each of the tone control knobs have 9MM style knobs, helping give the bass the Bad Stain style.
Tabby incorporated their own style into the bass using cat paws as fret markers, and also decorated the headstock with a black cat, and a large paw print on the truss rod cover plate. The back of the headstock features Tabby Kills signature, as well as the bass guitar’s serial number, and the individual build number.
The Tabby Kills Signature Cochise Bass is made in the USA using parts and components made in the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Russia, Japan, China, Korea and Mexico. The bass has been stained a deep champagne red, and has a protective polyurethane gloss finish. Each bass comes with an adjustable strap, soft case, instrument cable, and certificate of authenticity.
